THE PICKLEBALL COURTS AT ROYAL GARDENS WILL OPEN
WATCH FOR A SIGN UP GENIUS (SUG) EMAIL LATER TODAY.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Ran Newby and I am relatively new to the world of Pickleball. I started playing the game in Mesa, Arizona in early 2018 and after a few week’s play, I was hooked. Before I had even returned to Edmonton, Glenn Vickers asked if I would be interested in joining the EPC Board and I decided to take on the challenge. I have been the Vice President for the last eighteen months and have thoroughly enjoyed working with the other members of the Board. Recently, Helen Thomson and I, with the consent of the Board, have switched portfolios and she will now become Vice President and I will take the role of President. Now some information about playing pickleball in these trying times of Covid-19.
The EPC Board, in consultation with the City of Edmonton and other pickleball clubs in the region, has developed an EPC Policy 006 to define the playing parameters that will be used by the Edmonton Pickleball Club (EPC) during the period of time when there are Alberta Health restrictions in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic. There is a copy of that policy in this email AT THIS LINK and I encourage you to look at the protocols your club will use to protect the safety and health of its members when the courts reopen. This policy has also been provided to the City.
Just as Alberta is reopening in phases, Edmonton Pickleball Club is also reopening in phases. Our schedule for the courts at Royal Gardens will be for our Phase One and it is built around the work hours of Halle Singh, who is returning as our Programs Manager. In our Phase One, the courts at Royal Gardens will be open when Halle is on site as per our court schedule. At all other times, in our Phase One, the courts will be locked and unavailable for play. We need to do this so we can all get comfortable with the playing protocols and, in the beginning, we need to reopen cautiously so please continue to be patient. This year, we expect our court schedules will be “organic” once again. If you have paid your 2020 membership fee, look for Sign Up Genius invitations, announcing playing schedules, to arrive in your email inbox soon. If you have not paid your 2020 fee you will not receive an invitation. To renew your membership please visit the Edmonton Pickleball Club website at edmontonpickleballclub.org
If you are wondering about ratings and Rating Clinics, when we reopen, your Sign Up Genius invitation will go out according to your 2019 rating and we ask that you continue to play at that skill level for the time being. While many members have requested Rating Clinics, we feel it would be unfair to ask you to participate in a clinic so soon after the resumption of play. Some time will be needed for everyone to “get their game back” before clinics are scheduled.
Pickleball Club is a registered non-profit organization in Alberta.
