Further EPC Cancellations - March 18, 2020.
These days it seems that our Inboxes are filled with a steady stream of Cancellation Notices….
Many, many activities have been cancelled in an urgent effort to keep us safe and I accept that this is now our new normal but I still find it sad to see so many sweeping daily changes.
However, here are our cancellations –
Crestwood Curling Club has closed until April 30 at which time they will review their operational status.
As a result, we are cancelling all our Ratings Clinics because we had scheduled them for Crestwood Curling Club in April.
We are also cancelling the opening of round robin indoor pickleball at Crestwood Curling Club which was scheduled to begin on April 20.
And, with much sadness, the Board of Directors has taken the decision to cancel our Battle of the Paddle Pickleball Tournament.
Events like major tournaments simply do not comply with Alberta Health Services restrictions re number of participants. In addition, Pickleball Canada requires that when tournaments are to be cancelled, it must be done no later than six weeks prior to the start of the tournament. For us, that would be April 20 and at that point, a massive amount of work would have already been done on the tournament software that would then need to be undone and refunds issued to registrants. Also, our tournament usually has more than 250 registrants and it is unlikely that it would meet Alberta Health Services gathering size restrictions.
We are, however, cautiously optimistic that some form of Pickleball will return in the late spring and summer and we are going to plan for a hearty resumption of play, under controlled conditions, with the better outdoor weather.
In fact, we are now in the process of rescheduling “right sized” Ratings Clinics once the outdoor season opens. So, if you told me you wanted a Rating Clinic, I have your name on my lists and I will be in touch. This interruption is painful but temporary.
A word about our 2020 Membership renewals –
We appreciate your support of EPC Pickleball. Our membership renewals continue despite the current list of cancellations and when we get through this crisis, we will find a way to tangibly say thank you to those of you who have stuck with us. Together, we will get through this and be stronger than ever!
And one more thing –
Please look out for one another. While we must practice social distancing to remain well, some among us may feel isolated and alone. So, reach out to your PB friends, check in on them. Just an email or a phone call can be a big boost for someone feeling the isolation.
Don’t have their contact information through our membership system? No problem. If there is someone you worry about or want to contact, let me know and I can be your “middleman” and help you make contact.
Keep well, everyone,
Pickleball Club is a registered non-profit organization in Alberta.
