Changes to Court Schedule & Other News - August 10, 2019

Hello Everyone,

In order to accommodate our large and growing number of members at 3.0, we have made several adjustments to the Court Schedule at Royal Gardens.  These changes take effect on Monday, August 12 and will be reflected in your next Sunday SUG being sent out by Halle.

Please see the new Royal Gardens Court Schedule in the attachment below. As always, right click and open in new window.

In a nutshell, here is a summary of the changes:

On Mondays

On Mondays, we have shortened the 65+RR to a more reasonable two hours from the previous three hours.

On Mondays, we have also changed the start time for the 4.0+ to 5:00.  The 4.0+ session will now still be two hours from 5:00 to 7:00 and it will still be followed by Open Play so 4.0+ play can continue well into the wee hours….

On Wednesdays

On Wednesdays, we have divided the overly long multi hour 3.0/3.5 All Ages evening session into two sessions which are each two hours.  We had many comments requesting this change.

On Thursdays,

On Thursdays, we have added another 3.0 offering from 11:00 to 1:00 on Courts 1-6The regularly scheduled 3.5 Inter Club will continue but with a reduced capacity on Courts 7-10.  The 3.5 Inter Club session has been consistently underutilized, so… hence the adjustment.

We have also upped the capacity of several 3.0 sessions to 44 from 40.

We recognize that we may not be able to make everyone happy with these changes, but we are trying….

There are no changes to the Jasper Park schedule.

In other news, today is National Pickleball Day across our land.  While we have no special events planned for today, I’m sure we all agree that every day is a special day when there is Pickleball to be played.

Save the Date – September 14

Please save September 14 as our fall Members Only Charity Event and Social.  More details will be coming in the next few days but please plan to attend.  Again, we will be supporting a charity which is near and dear to members.

Special Olympics Partnership

We are very excited to be partnering with Special Olympics next outdoor season.

Planning has been underway for some time now and we are looking forward to this initiative!

As a Try It Night for Special Olympics athletes, we have set aside Thursday, August 29 from 6:00-7:30 at the Courts at Royal Gardens.  Ted and Barb Biggs have volunteered to lead/coach the Try It Night and we will be asking for 12 volunteers from our club to assist.  Please watch this space for more info and for the call for volunteers.

And speaking of volunteers, please give Susan Cooper and Alix Steward a hearty high five when you next see them.  Susan and Alix have volunteered to work on our Club Membership Committee!  Many thanks to Susan and Alix!

Sport Room Access

I have no further news re changes to Sport Room access.  For now, the ‘key on a spoon” strategy continues to prevail.

August is Tournament Month

Many of our members are playing in tournaments this month.  Red Deer is hosting provincials this weekend and Spruce Grove Pickleheads are hosting their ever popular Summer Smash next weekend.

You can follow all the action online at pickleballtournaments.com.

Good luck to all our member tournament participants!

Paddles up!

Helen
