Referee Development Program for EPC
As much as we all love tournaments, we could not have sanctioned tournaments without referees and, the reality is, referees are always overworked and in short supply. Historically, members have shied away from refereeing for fear of making a mistake. We’d like to remove that fear and get more members trained to referee.
We believe that becoming able to referee is part of the “cycle of life” in pickleball.
Refereeing is not too hard, too stressful, or only for the elite players. Anyone can learn to referee – with the right training and preparation.
So, at EPC, we are launching our Referee Development Program on May 4 to give members the right preparation. Our plan is to offer several small group referee training sessions throughout the season, beginning on May 4.
For our May 4 Referee Development Session, we are looking for 6 members who have never before refereed. We are looking for true beginners – all you need is a basic understanding of the rules of pickleball and a willingness to learn. This small group of 6 members will spend approximately 2 hours in classroom instruction followed by 2 hours of guided on court practice.
We think the small group model is the way to go. A small group of like minded PB members who have never refereed PB before but are interested.
The sessions will be led by Mike Gray, Vlad Eshenko and Ran Newby.
If you are interested in the May 4 session, please contact me directly. Use email@example.com
The May 4 session will be held at the EPC Courts at Royal Gardens, in the Sport Room, from 9:00-1:00.
Later in the spring, we will offer Referee Refreshers for those of you who already have some, but limited experience refereeing.
That’s all for now. Enjoy your day! The sun is shining!
