Your First Sign Up Genius Invites for our opening week for the Courts at Royal Gardens will go out after the conclusion of our 3.5 Ratings Clinics on April 28. We need a couple of days to finalize the ratings lists on SUG and then we will again send out SUGS on a weekly basis for your sign ups.
The Ratings Clinics have been going very well and we appreciate your support and forbearance. The goal of the ratings is to create opportunities for members to play with others at similar skills and abilities. That is the sole purpose of ratings.
EPC and other PB clubs in the Edmonton region believe that players should compete in tournaments at the same level at which they play in club events. Tournament Directors in our region are implementing this position.
We fully recognize that this presents a challenge for some players whose ratings have changed since they registered in our Battle of the Paddle. Members whose ratings went up are now expected to compete at the higher rating level. Sometimes these players’ partners are prepared to “move up” to the higher rating category. Sometimes these players may need to find new partners who are also at the same higher rating level.
We know that change is difficult and to help players who need to change their tournament registration, the deadline to find partners has been removed altogether. You have the time you need.
Also, every effort is being made to accommodate those players whose ratings change affects their tournament registration. Brackets are not closed as yet. Just change your registration to your new rating level and we will work with you.
I know there has been “chatter” about these required changes to players’ tournament registrations. But please remember the purpose of ratings is to ensure players play and compete with other players at similar skill levels so please work with us.
By working with us, you are helping to ensure a strong, fair tournament experience for all.
Also please remember that many members and tournament players are quietly happy to know that when they enter a particular tournament bracket, the other tournament participants in that bracket play at similar playing abilities and skills.
So, let’s work together, folks.
As always, let me know your thoughts.
