HOW EDMONTON PICKLEBALL CLUB OPERATES AT THE OUTDOOR COURTS AT ROYAL GARDENS COMMUNITY LEAGUE 4030 117 Street NW Edmonton Alberta
Here is information about how our club operates on our outdoor courts so that you can quickly get playing the game we all love!
OUR COURTS ACCESS CODES
Our EPC Courts at Royal Gardens are locked and once you have joined our club, you will be sent the Courts Access Codes.
OUR 2019 OUTDOOR COURT SCHEDULE
Our 2019 Outdoor Court Schedule was recently published and are available on this website.
Our court schedules are organic, meaning they sometimes adjust according to players’ needs, and our website always has the latest court schedules.
ROUND ROBIN PLAY
All EPC Round Robin Play is set up by player ratings. Player ratings at 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 are self-ratings.
Players at 3.5 and 4.0 must have a Club Rating of 3.5 or 4.0 to participate in club events at those levels.
Our website www.edmontonpickleballclub.org has an excellent description of the skills you must master at each rating level. Please go to the website and check it out carefully. Then rate yourself dispassionately based on your mastery of the skills. That’s mastery – not occasional use.
We want you to have fun and learn and grow in pickleball. Self-rating yourself too high, beyond your mastery level, will not make pickleball fun for you. You will only be frustrated and who really needs that? So, when choosing which level of Round Robin on the Court Schedule you want to attend, choose your appropriate rated Round Robin session.
When you get to your chosen Round Robin on the court schedule, use the Round Robin Draw Sheets in the Round Robin Boxes in the Tall Storage Shed near Court #5. Usually someone in the Round Robin group assumes the informal role of “Round Robin Captain” and takes charge. Then play and have fun!
PLAYER RATINGS AND RATINGS MATTER
Players self-identify your own rating for 2.0, 2.5, and 3.0, and play in Round Robins, Ladders and Inter Club Play according to your self-identified rating.
A significant change applies to players at 3.5 and above. Players at 3.5 and above must have either a Tournament Rating or a Club Rating of 4.0+. Self-identified ratings will no longer suffice for 3.5 and beyond. And, if your rating has changed, please update your EPC profile on our website.
So, all players in the 3.5+ sessions must have either a Tournament Rating or Club Rating of 4.0+.
To be eligible for the 4.5+ sessions, players must have a 4.5+ Tournament Rating.
BALLS AND DEMO PADDLES
Balls and Demo Paddles are available for your use in the Tall Storage Shed near court #5. Our Club Ball is the darker yellow Onix Pure 2 ball. For tournament players who are practising for tournaments, we also have available a limited supply of the Durafast 40 ball which is a lighter yellow in color.
Feel free to use the darker yellow club balls for your play but when you are finished playing, kindly return the balls you have used to the Tall Storage Shed. Make sure you do not inadvertently put the club balls into your PB bag and accidentally take club balls home with you. Balls do break from time to time and that is normal and cannot be avoided; however, we “accidentally” lose a large number of balls and replacement is costly for the club so help us out by returning all balls at the end of play.
HOW TO USE SIGN UP GENIUS
We use Sign Up Genius for all Round Robins, for all Ladders, and for all Inter Club Play so you must familiarize yourself with how to sign up for sessions using Sign Up Genius (SUG).
We have included an example of How to Use Sign Up Genius Under a Separate Tab.
We hope this information helps you get started with Edmonton Pickleball Club.
