YOU MEET THE NICEST PEOPLE ON A PICKLEBALL COURT

 Newsletter - April 30, 2018

Hello Everyone,

As we get the outdoor season going at both the Courts at Royal Gardens this week and at Westridge next week you will likely hear more frequently from me than usual.

Referee Clinic May 19, 2018 10:00 – 1:00 at the Courts at Royal Gardens

Walt Buhler, USAPA Certified Referee, will offer a free Referee Clinic on Saturday, May 19, 10:00-1:00. The clinic will consist of 2 hours of classroom instruction and 1 hour of practicum on the courts during PB play.  I encourage you to register for this clinic by emailing me at helen.thomson@shaw.ca   We also need players available on May 19 from 12:00-1:00 for referee practice.  Again, please email me that you are willing to be a player for their practice.

Player Ratings – Ratings Matter.

Players with self-identified ratings of 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, and 3.5 will continue to play according to their self-identified rating. No change here.

A significant change applies to players at 4.0 and above.  Players at 4.0 and above must now have either a Tournament Rating or an Independent Rating of 4.0+.  Self-identified ratings will no longer suffice for 4.0+.  And, if your rating has changed, please update your EPC profile on our website.

So, all players in the 4.0+ sessions must have either a Tournament Rating or Independent Rating of 4.0+.

We are adding to the schedule dedicated sessions for 4.5+ rated players.  To be eligible for those sessions, players must have either a 4.5+ Tournament Rating or an Independent Rating of 4.5+.

If you have self-identified as 4.0+ but do not have the commensurate Tournament or Independent  Rating and you believe the caliber of your play qualifies you for the higher level, fear not, you will not be banished as the season opens.  We will try to look after you and organize an appropriate Independent Rating for you.  If this applies to you, please contact me at helen.thomson@shaw.ca explain your situation to me in an email and we will develop a plan for you.

Also, if you are a strong 3.5 player and would like an Independent Rating so you can play at 4.0, please let me know.

InterClub Play

InterClub Play for 3.0 and 3.5 starts on Thursday May 3 11:00-1:00.  All ten courts will be in play. This is not a drop in event.  Players must use SignUp Genius to register for this event.  We may need to add another InterClub Play session as this seems to be very popular.  Stay tuned!

Ladder Play

Ladder Play for 2.0-2.5 and for 3.0 is ready to go.  Lynne Vickers is your Ladder “Sheriff”.  She will lead you through the more informal version of Ladder Play.

Ladder Play for 3.5 and for 4.0+ is not yet ready to go.  Please use the session slot for Round Robin play for this week.

As it is illegal and subject to fine or worse, please remember that smoking and alcohol consumption is prohibited on any public outdoor court, field or in parking lots.  It represents a significant reputational risk for the Club and for the sport.

Looking forward to a great opening week!
